This is our second year working with importer Juan Arango of Arango Speciality Coffee to source another tasty offering from Northern Colombia. Juan brings in some truly great coffees of various small holder coffee producers from back in his home country of Colombia. This coffee offering comes from producer Martin Tapias' farm Campo Alegre.
Martin lives at Campo Alegre with his wife Gladys and their children. He has 16,000 coffee trees planted in the 8 hectares that conform Campo Alegre. Martin takes great pride in the management of the farm. He is always making an effort to improve his coffee business by reinvesting back into the farm. Upon visiting, it is evident that he has invested in a superior wet mill and quality marquesinas (drying beds), for wash processing and drying. Certain that his attention to every detail translates to a great cup of coffee.
While most Colombian coffees we source have a distinct acidity that shine through the cup, this one is more on the mild side. We get a big cocoa note in this one, it has a real pleasant sweetness and a softer acidity which still keeps it interesting. We would surely classify this one as a true crowd pleaser, its very approachable and is sure to please any coffee drinker.
